  We have rented over 15 different homes in Old Timberline, vacationing yearly to hike Dolly Sods and fish in the two lakes. Ranger Station is the first home we have rented in the valley past the lakes. Our two grandson brought their bikes and we really enjoyed fishing right across the street in the tranquil pond. The amenities at Ranger Station are very upscale. The furniture, ceiling fans, AC, lighting, variety of dishware, decor, appliances and variety of extras made this home stand out. We all felt pampered and enjoyed the experience making this a very pleasant home to relax and enjoy nature of this beautiful valley. Of course the trailhead to Dolly Sods is a highlight of Old Timberline. Best of Canaan is very easy and friendly to communicate with. Our grandsons won’t want us to rent any other place, so I’m glad we loved it too.

  The property was very nice - exactly as advertised. Very clean and included everything we needed for a great stay. Used it for a ski vacation and our 5-person family had plenty of space. When we got over 6 inches of snow overnight, plow came through and cleared the road and driveway in the morning.

  We had a great time staying at this house. The house is beautiful and very accommodating. Especially loved the heated toilet seat seats. lol. Things that could be improved upon the Check in/out procedure. You have to drive to a rental office to pick up and drop off keys and then drive another 10 minutes or so to the house itself. Would be easier to have a code lock on the door and be able to get in the house that way. They need to have more toilet paper and garbage bags at the house. Front door is very difficult to lock and one of the windows in the back bedroom would not lock. When we arrived in December, 5 windows were unlocked. I was not strong enough to lock them, but luckily my son used all of his strength to lock all but one of them that just wouldn’t lock. The house is in a beautiful nature preserve but still, I felt more comfortable having all of the windows locked so I didn’t like that that one did not lock. Also, there are no window blinds in the main living room so cars is driving by can look right in at night. There is only one TV, but some families might prefer more than that. The timberline Ski Resort is located immediately outside of the nature preserve so it was a great location to the house.

  The Ranger Station has been remodeled and upgraded amenities. The house was great before, we stayed there last year, but the remodel was a very pleasant surprise. Both bathrooms are now have SMART features which are very nice. The kitchen has SMART appliances and the kitchen cabinet remodel is BEAUTIFUL. The new furniture is comfy and the new flooring adds a special flare to the rooms. The new fans and SMART controls were a nice touch. The new door locks were a small problem, but maintenance was quick to assist. The new version of this house has just been open for a few weeks, so there is always small things to correct. The landscaping and new outdoor furniture is nice.

  I frequent staying back in Old Timberline because I love the privacy, some of the houses let you bring your dog(s), and the private access to the hiking areas and ponds.
  
  We had a great stay but this place was probably one of my least favorite places we have stayed. I loved the theme and the back yard was really private which was nice. The house is right off the road with other houses nearby so the front wasn't quite as private.
  
  It was a little outdated inside and didn't have quite as nice amenities as we usually stay and a little more run down if I'm being honest.
  
  We probably won't go back to this place but it did make a nice getaway for a week's trip.

  Great central location for our family of 5 to explore the sites of Canaan Valley and surrounding areas. We made good use of the fishing pond across the street and yard games and bikes in the garage were a happy surprise. Kitchen was well stocked and house well maintained. We were nervous about having no A/C in July but the mountain air was cool and breezy and surrounding trees gave shade and privacy. The private trail access to Dolly Sods as well as the access to 2 larger ponds and community trails were wonderful and a nice bonus.

  Ranger Station was overall a terrific place to stay, roomy and clean. Having a place all on one level (with just a handful of steps up from the outside) was great for our group, and the fact that the bedrooms are all in one part of the house that can be closed off with a door from the main room (so that some can stay up to see movies and others not) was also very handy. There is a working VCR not listed in the amenities, btw. The pond and gazebo just across the road are pleasant, and nearby homes are mainly out of sight even though there are signs of life on the roads. We loved the National parks theme (carried out throughout - there were even National Parks pop-up books and a lot of wildlife/conservation books in a desk area in the living room). I would definitely rent this place again.
  A few things that might matter to some guests but not others:
  -There is wifi, but it's not secure (we got a warning, didn't mind much) AND not as strong/steady as some guests would need. A friend who had an important zoom meeting decided to go home early rather than risk the wifi. The wifi was good enough for streaming at some times but fussy..
  -We were there during a freak May snowstorm with lots of after melt followed by rain. This may have affected our water supply, which was orange (due to tannic acid that's heavy in that part of Timberline, we were told), even though the ultraviolet filter in the house had recently been changed/updated. We were OK, but if this would concern you, you might want to check w/mgmt before you book to find out if things have settled down.
  -In general the place is WONDERFULLY well equipped (kitchen, grill equipment, extra bedding and pillows), but I wished I had brought a good paring knife

  Liked the gated community so that only those who were renting were allowed in. Peaceful and quiet. Centrally located for what we wanted to do. Happy to find accommodations that accepted our dog who goes where we go. The trees were gorgeous!! The garage doors were tall enough that we could drive the Jeep in with the cartop carrier on. This made unloading and loading so much easier and we didn't have to confine the dog while we did so. Great relaxing experience!!

  House had great potential, but appeared to have little upcare recently. Very musty odor that affected my allergies. There was a machine in one bedroom to reduce the odor without success. We closed the doors to 3 bedrooms,purchased several cans of lysol to reduce the odor with little success.   We stayed for a month and enjoyed every day of it. Large bedrooms, large leaving room with TV, good internet, two porches, one under the shade of the large tree. Huge refrigerator. Everything that is needed for an extended stay. Large garage.

  The Ranger Station was a great hub for our family hiking trip. It is fairly secluded, yet a short drive to many great hiking trails. We hiked, fished, looked for deer, played cards. It was a great vacation!

  My husband and I loved this home. We wanted a rental that was pet friendly, so we could bring a fur baby along. The home was clean, welcoming, and convenient. The fenced in yard was perfect for us and our dog. This rental has a nice view of a pond with a nice walking trail around it and gazebo. One con that I do need to mention is, there was a musty smell when we first entered the home. The home has two humidifiers and the machines were not running to do needing the water dumped so they could continue to run, once we changed the water the smell was out and the machines ran fine.
