This spacious mountain home provides plenty of peace and quiet both inside and out. Located on a large mountainside lot and surrounded by trees it is the perfect location for wildlife watching and family gatherings. Families will enjoy gathering by the fire for a game of cards or favorite movie. A fully equipped kitchen with sitting space for spectators will make the resident chef smile and mealtimes a family affair. The upstairs loft provides a perfect place for separating the gang for quiet time. It is a short drive to Blackwater Falls, Canaan Resort and the “chic” towns of Davis and Thomas.   We stay often in Canaan Valley. One of the guys who's 50th we were celebrating had stayed here previously and chose this place. Sadly, when we arrived the hot tub was out of order. Then the power was out for a few hours. Next, we had a bit of a black ant issue in the kitchen. Lastly, when we went to use the gas grill, I'd just say it'd seen better days. I will mention that the guy who here previously had NOT experienced such issues. And I’m aware the hot tub was being replaced.
  Now for the good news, the Best of Canaan were very helpful and nice to deal with. The place was very clean and well-appointed with a very new kitchen. The furniture (beds / couches / etc) was nice. I think there were just some unfortunate issues but I feel confident they will all be resolved and I would stay there again and feel comfortable recommending this place as it is a very nice place in a wonderful setting.

  This was our second time staying at Otters Den and it's definitely one of our favorites. The hot tub is great, and we really appreciate the provided firewood as there's nothing more relaxing than a fire on a chilly day, of which we had several during our stay. The beds are comfortable, and the kitchen has been completely updated since our last stay, which was a nice surprise. Although there are other houses nearby, this place is tucked in and feels very private, another thing that rates high on our list. Overall, I definitely recommend Otters Den!

Large windows in the great room to take in the breathtaking views. One evening a large deer was looking at us maybe he was watching tv. The kitchen was very well stocked and roomy. The huge living room had double large sofa's and a big stone fireplace. There also was a 4 person table and chairs behind the sofa's for games, puzzles and more.   The surrounding area is beautiful and many rentals are rustic and fit into the scenery. Almost as if you are a part of nature. This area has not changed in 25 years which is a good thing. Be prepared to relax and turn off the modern and fast pace of todays society. Some must see areas, Blackwater Falls (Lindy Point Trl), shopping in Thomas (Tip Top Coffee Shop is awesome), Seneca Rock-go ahead and hike up it is not to strenuous, Dolly Sods has many wonderful trails but is rocky in many areas and can be muddy after some rain. This rental is darker on the inside than the photos appear. The back deck with hot tub is a plus. And overall the place was clean (coffee pot could use more attention on cleaning).

  Otter’s Den fit our family and our vacation perfectly. We were looking for a house that comfortably fit all 8 of us and a space we could just relax, watch movies, and play games. This house had the perfect bed layout with a suite on the bottom floor for the grandparents and just the right amount of beds and Bathrooms upstairs for two couples and two kids. The house also had just enough seating. The huge fireplace was a beautiful centerpiece and heated the home nicely. But the baseboard heat in the all the spaces allowed for personalized heat in certain spaces. We liked making the bathrooms toasty before bed. The fire pit was really fun and the hot tub was amazing! Plenty of wood was provided for both the fireplace and fire pit. The kitchen was well stocked we stayed over thanksgiving and had plenty of serving dishes. We did bring our own aluminum pans to cook in. The only quirky thing in the kitchen is if you are cooking a lot (like thanksgiving dinner) you have to cook with the windows open. With no hood vent, the heat or smoke tends to set off the smoke alarm. I get hot when I cook so I didn’t mind. All appliances worked as advertised and the wifi worked well enough to hook up and watch movies on our Apple TV. Overall it was a great stay and we really hope to book it again next year. The house was great, the gated community was very quiet, and the Beat of Canaan management was really responsive. When we called to have the hot tub cleaned on our last day (we used it multiple times a day) they arrived within 10 minutes. We totally recommend Best of Canaan and Otter’s Den you won’t regret it.

  Otters den was a nice place to get away from it all. It was just as we expected it to be from the description on vrbo. The property managers were very kind and helpful. When we went to make toast in the morning the toaster only browned on one side of the bread. I called to ask them something and mentioned this. They had a new toaster there within the hour. Beautiful leaves on the trees, nice small shops in Davis, and Seneca rock just a little ride down the road. The driveway was pretty steep at the top for when we were trying to unload the cars. And mom suggested a few chairs on the front porch would have been a nice addition. All in all would I would recommend this rental to everyone.

The hot tub was perfect for the 4 of us but wouldn't be big enough to fit more people, so if we had had more people that could have been a bummer. The views from the cabin were great as through the windows we could see the beautiful fall colors of the trees and saw a few deer as well. Overall we loved our stay and wished we could have stayed longer! We will definitely return to the area and stay in one of the Best of Canaan cabins! Thanks for the much needed getaway!

  We rented the property just a few weeks before we wanted to stay. Everything was handled easily by the staff. If you have not been to Canaan Valley before plan to arrive before dark, to find house easily. Great Place to stay. Eight people were with us and it handled the number with plenty of space. Everything we needed was there and close proximity to attractions.

  The location was exactly what we were looking for, private and secluded. However, the only real dissapoinments was that BOTH barbeques were not cleaned and the gas grill was neither filled nor connected. That was one of the things we were looking forward too. Also, we felt that if 5 out of 6 bulbs are out on the ceiling fans, that should have been replaced. Other than that, the set-up was perfect and we had a wonderful stay. Would love to go back!!

  We enjoyed our stay at the Otter's Den. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking and the beds were comfortable. The only thing we needed was some kindling or fatwood to get the fireplace started the first night since we arrived after dark and some dishwasher detergent would be great. The hot tub was a bit of a disappointment since the water was not clean yet it appeared as a separate 50 dollar charge on the bill. This is more of a fault of the management company rather than a fault of the house. If you don't plan to use the hot tub I'd get them to take it off the bill in advance. Overall it was a good stay.

  Overall, a nice place. Well laid out, with bedrooms and furniture thoughtfully arranged. Just some little things were noticeable, but they should be attended immediately. Toilet on the upper floor sized for Oompa Loompas, with a toilet seat that is about to fall off. The towel rack and hook did fall off. Blender in kitchen was unusable, and we found no pot lids that fit. Propane tank for gas grill was empty. The sofa bed upstairs was pretty uncomfortable, even for a sofa bed. Still, the good outweighed the bad. There were 9 of us. We filled the whole house, but we were comfortable in the space. We had a very enjoyable stay. Next time we are in the area, we will consider a return.
