Large windows in the great room to take in the breathtaking views. One evening a large deer was looking at us maybe he was watching tv. The kitchen was very well stocked and roomy. The huge living room had double large sofa's and a big stone fireplace. There also was a 4 person table and chairs behind the sofa's for games, puzzles and more. Comfy beds and a big front porch with rockers. You couldn't ask for anything more at this rental.

  The surrounding area is beautiful and many rentals are rustic and fit into the scenery. Almost as if you are a part of nature. This area has not changed in 25 years which is a good thing. Be prepared to relax and turn off the modern and fast pace of todays society. Some must see areas, Blackwater Falls (Lindy Point Trl), shopping in Thomas (Tip Top Coffee Shop is awesome), Seneca Rock-go ahead and hike up it is not to strenuous, Dolly Sods has many wonderful trails but is rocky in many areas and can be muddy after some rain. This rental is darker on the inside than the photos appear. The back deck with hot tub is a plus. And overall the place was clean (coffee pot could use more attention on cleaning).

  Otter’s Den fit our family and our vacation perfectly. We were looking for a house that comfortably fit all 8 of us and a space we could just relax, watch movies, and play games. This house had the perfect bed layout with a suite on the bottom floor for the grandparents and just the right amount of beds and Bathrooms upstairs for two couples and two kids. The house also had just enough seating. The huge fireplace was a beautiful centerpiece and heated the home nicely. But the baseboard heat in the all the spaces allowed for personalized heat in certain spaces. We liked making the bathrooms toasty before bed. The fire pit was really fun and the hot tub was amazing! Plenty of wood was provided for both the fireplace and fire pit. The kitchen was well stocked we stayed over thanksgiving and had plenty of serving dishes. We did bring our own aluminum pans to cook in. The only quirky thing in the kitchen is if you are cooking a lot (like thanksgiving dinner) you have to cook with the windows open. With no hood vent, the heat or smoke tends to set off the smoke alarm. I get hot when I cook so I didn’t mind. All appliances worked as advertised and the wifi worked well enough to hook up and watch movies on our Apple TV. Overall it was a great stay and we really hope to book it again next year. The house was great, the gated community was very quiet, and the Beat of Canaan management was really responsive. When we called to have the hot tub cleaned on our last day (we used it multiple times a day) they arrived within 10 minutes. We totally recommend Best of Canaan and Otter’s Den you won’t regret it.

  Otters den was a nice place to get away from it all. It was just as we expected it to be from the description on vrbo. The property managers were very kind and helpful. When we went to make toast in the morning the toaster only browned on one side of the bread. I called to ask them something and mentioned this. They had a new toaster there within the hour. Beautiful leaves on the trees, nice small shops in Davis, and Seneca rock just a little ride down the road. The driveway was pretty steep at the top for when we were trying to unload the cars. And mom suggested a few chairs on the front porch would have been a nice addition. All in all would I would recommend this rental to everyone.

Great for skiers because you are paying for what matters which is a warm bed, wood fireplace, kitchen, grills and hot tub - and not a lot of fancy stuff in a house that you are basically just relaxing at night and sleeping in. Price is right. Really great trip.

  We enjoyed our stay at the Otter's Den. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking and the beds were comfortable. The only thing we needed was some kindling or fatwood to get the fireplace started the first night since we arrived after dark and some dishwasher detergent would be great. The hot tub was a bit of a disappointment since the water was not clean yet it appeared as a separate 50 dollar charge on the bill. This is more of a fault of the management company rather than a fault of the house. If you don't plan to use the hot tub I'd get them to take it off the bill in advance. Overall it was a good stay.

  Overall, a nice place. Well laid out, with bedrooms and furniture thoughtfully arranged. Just some little things were noticeable, but they should be attended immediately. Toilet on the upper floor sized for Oompa Loompas, with a toilet seat that is about to fall off. The towel rack and hook did fall off. Blender in kitchen was unusable, and we found no pot lids that fit. Propane tank for gas grill was empty. The sofa bed upstairs was pretty uncomfortable, even for a sofa bed. Still, the good outweighed the bad. There were 9 of us. We filled the whole house, but we were comfortable in the space. We had a very enjoyable stay. Next time we are in the area, we will consider a return.

  We were sooooo pleased with our stay. The property is very private, even with no leaves on the trees. The kids loved the back woods with the creek and the rope swing. So much room but still cozy. We loved it!
