Named for the story of a spring celebration of 19th century American pioneers, this lovely one-story contemporary home is rich with one of the hardest to find yet simplest of gifts, peace and quiet. Relax and listen to the sounds of nature from the lovely deck or take a hike around the tranquil wooded area. Settle into vacation mode in front of the fireplace with that book or magazine you have been meaning to read for a while now. The night sky will be amazing from the comfort of the outdoor hot tub. There are no interruptions here unless you take a break to observe nature from the ceiling to floor windows. Don’t be surprised if everyone wants to help prepare meals thanks to the comfortable design of the extra excellent kitchen.   Although we have been renting homes in Canaan Valley for over 25 years, this was our first time at Appalachian Spring. It was just as depicted on the internet. Most impressive was the amount of light: skylights and large, numerous windows made the home so cheerful! It seemed even larger than it looked in the pictures. The living room furniture was quite comfortable; we only used the primary bedroom, which was HUGE, and the bed was very comfortable. The setting was at the end of the road and very private. A small negative was the hot tub jets. It had two settings: on the first setting, the jets barely moved the water; on the second setting, it produced very powerful bubbles, but it quickly cooled the water down. The primary bathroom decor is in need of an update, but it was large and perfectly functional. Seems like the cleaning crew forgot to clean the shower & the closet floor, but the house was otherwise spotless. All in all, it was a great place and we would come back again without hesitation.

  This property is an absolute gem hidden away at the end of Cottonwood Way. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The kitchen is a dream to work in, the assortment of cooking and baking utensils is vast.
  There are serving dishes/utensils/pans/baking dishes for just about any food you want to serve. We couldn't use the garage because the drop off from road to garage was a little steep for our Mustangs. The couch is very comfortable as are the beds. There was plenty of TP, dish soap, dishwasher detg, laundry, detg, paper towels and garbage bags for our stay. The closets are filled with extra pillows, towels, and blankets. There is lots of wildlife in the area; we saw deer, turkey, vultures and a raven from the deck. And, we heard several owls after dark. I had trouble getting the front door unlocked. I called the rental company and they gave me tips and offered to send someone out to open it for me; but I got it unlocked. All four of us had a fantastic time and a very relaxing stay at Appalachian Spring, and we are planning on making this a yearly trip to this property!

We enjoyed the hottub but there were no directions in the welcome book so we had to google it to figure out to get it out of standby mode. Also, some of the rooms are hotter than others. And the garage wasn't cleaned after the last guests. Otherwise we did enjoy it and may return in the fugure. Oh, I'd also recommend installing a level 2 Electric vehicle charger.

  The kitchen was the best equipped one we have ever rented. House needed a deeper cleaning, but it still was nice. Location was good. We had a little snow, but the younger generation skied and snow boarded at the closest ski slopes and SIL enjoyed a lot of bike trails. . I wish they had safety rails in the master bath and a higher toilet and someway for a disabled person to get in and out of the hot tub. I don’t think places up there are equipped for the disabled, but the house had plenty of room, huge windows and it was all on one floor. There are a lot of light switches and 2 bedrooms needed more light sources. A lot of puzzles and games were provided. We would rent Appalachian Spring again.

  Our three-generational family of six adults and two children celebrated Christmas at this wonderful house for the third year in a row. The house itself is spacious, well-appointed, and the layout is just perfect for our group. We love the location and had hoped to ski again this year but the low temperature coupled with wind chill, made that impossible. So we enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and playing in the five inches of new snow with our grandsons. There was plenty of room indoors for the little boys to build their Christmas Lego kits while the adults caught up on some reading, watched a football game in the huge seating area, or cooked together in the fabulous kitchen. I'm very picky about CLEAN, and basically, the house was clean but it hadn't been used for a month or so and could have benefited from a freshening of bedding, cobweb removal/dusting, and just an overall check before we arrived. The folks at Best of Canaan were great to address a couple of glitches in a professional and timely manner, even on Christmas Eve! It's a great property and we'll likely be back!

  This house was very clean and well maintained. The level paved driveway was nice for the kids to ride their bikes. Kitchen is beautiful. Sectional in living room is extra large. Large deck in the back with nice hot tub, although a little small. It was nice to have the use of the garage. TVs in bedrooms and a pool table in the large living room would add to this very nice ranch home. The house, along with the gated community that includes lakes to fish, kayak, were wonderful! Would love to go back to this home. (MBR toilet had a little glitch...difficult to flush at times)

  Let's start with the roads and then on to the good stuff. The neighborhood decided to spray the roads with soybean oil to keep down the dust during our stay. I suppose this worked, except the oil sticks to your car. And then to your shoes. And to your clothes if you aren't super careful. Their recommendation? Drive about 3 mph and then wash the car every time you go over the roads. Neither of these things are practical. You cannot wash off the soybean oil with anything other than serious hand scrubbing. A touchless car wash or a self-serve spray and wash doesn't do it. (we tried) Also, this stuff will destroy your car washing equipment at home.
  
  I'd still recommend the house, but check to see if they're still oiling the roads and decide accordingly.
  
  On to the good stuff!
  
  The house is great! It's well equipped, very well set (you can't see any other houses) and nicely appointed. The couch is super comfortable and huge and the kitchen is fun to cook in. The beds were comfortable and the hot tub is nice. (It's small - four people is definitely the MAX and your legs will be mingling with each other)
  
  I'd recommend the house and consider staying there again. I'd call about the oil before I do, though.

  Our family of six adults and two children chose Appalachian Spring for the second consecutive year for our Christmas getaway. The layout of the house is great. There's plenty of room to cook, eat, and gather as well as space for quiet and privacy. There's lots nearby to keep all ages occupied. We skied at Canaan Valley, browsed the shops at Thomas, swam at CV Lodge, and enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood and around Spruce Lake. As before, we found the staff at Best of Canaan to be exceptionally friendly, efficient, and accommodating. We'll be back!

  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Appalachian Spring. It is spacious and inviting, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of storage space in the cabinets. The wraparound sofa in the living room is situated in front of the fireplace and can easily accommodate a dozen people comfortably. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms, roomy. The hot tub is small for a large crowd but was clean and comfortable. The lot is very private and quiet. We definitely plan to return in the future.

  The home is a very private and in a very nice location. The home is well appointed and has 4 large bedrooms, one being a very nice suite. The kitchen is large and has everything you'll need even you choose to make a gourmet meal. Hot tub is nice for 4 people, dinning and living room are spacous also. The only thing I would change would be to upgrade that small tv in the living room, If the weather is good there, most of your time will be spent outside enjoying the beauty but when it rains 3 out of the 4 days you need to watch a bigger screen. Would definitely rent from Best of Canaan again they do a great job.

  Took my family up here for a weekend get away. Great private location in a gated community. The beds were comfy, the hot tub was great, the kitchen was amazing, can't speak highly enough of the property. We had daily visits from deer which the kids loved. Nearby Davis has falls and outdoor activities and when your hungry several restaurants to eat at. Best of Canaan people were friendly and helpful. Will return.

  My husband and I, our two daughters and their husbands, and our two young grandsons had really looked forward to a pre-Christmas ski trip to Canaan Valley. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and we had unseasonably warm temperatures and rain for most of our four-day stay. Fortunately, the house was spacious, very clean, and in a great location. There was plenty of space for all eight of us to relax, eat, and sleep. Our 5 and 2-year-old grandsons loved playing hide & seek inside and we all enjoyed hikes around the neighborhood. We also spent some time admiring Blackwater Falls, browsing the shops at Thomas, and taking advantage of the indoor pool at Canaan Valley Lodge. Donna at Best of Canaan was very helpful and quick to respond via email to my pre-stay questions. Check-in and check-out processes were smooth and easy. Despite the lack of snow, we all had a great getaway, and will very likely be back again next year.

  Overall we had a nice stay, the home had plenty of space for the 3 of us. That one queen bedroom needs to have a ceiling fan. We have a cat and could not bring it and had to leave him at Elkins in boarding for the week, he did not do very good, he missed us so much :( would have loved to kept him there in his big cage/house in the garage so he could be close to us, would have not let him run loose at all in the house, I wish some of the homes would allow cats if we promised to not let them do damage.

  Four couples spent a long weekend. We had a great time, despite a rainy weekend. The house was very nice. However, it needs a few things in order to be suitable for eight guests: more coffee mugs, larger trash bags with ties, a DVD player, labels on the myriad light switches, a salad bowl. Also, something needs to be done to improve the water pressure in the bathrooms. Having said all that, with a few little fixes, this is a terrific house in a splendid, remote location.

  The house was a pleasant retreat. The layout of the place was great with plenty of space. The kitchen was exceptional with all the upgrades. The family certainly enjoyed the large dining table as we all sat around it eating, chatting and sharing many fun stories. The great room was a place for relaxation and taking in the colorful, picturesque outside scenery with the large floor-to-ceiling windows. The spacious master suite was incredible. The whole place was tastefully done. The only negative was that there could have been more than one TV. It would have really convenient to have had TV's in the bedrooms, especially in the master suite.
  I want to also commend the rental staff for their personable and caring ways in accommodating our situations as our needs changed.
